The New World is an epic adventure set amid the encounter of European and Native American cultures during the founding of the Jamestown Settlement in 1607. Inspired by the legend of John Smith and Pocahontas, acclaimed filmmaker Terrence Malick transforms this classic story into a sweeping exploration of love, loss and discovery, both a celebration and an elegy of the America that was…and the America that was yet to come.

Wes plays Opechancanough, a Powhatan chief, born about 1545, died in 1644.  Visit the Movie Website HERE!

The Reviews are in!

"The New World" - Wes Studi LOS ANGELES
Wes Studi speaks what could be the real Algonquian language in "The New World." And, he says that's one of the things that intrigued him about working on the movie. He says a "scholar from the Smithsonian, a linguist, had taken something like 27 words that the English had written down back in those days, at least what they thought they sounded like" and created a language for the actors to use. Language is one of the reasons Wes Studi was so excited about being in the movie, "The New World." He just happens to be a spokesman for a group called Indigenous Language Institute out of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Rusty Carter - Virginia Gazette
"Many films are only as strong as their supporting actors. Malick chose wisely with David Thewlis as the sanctimonious Wingfield and Yorick van Wageningen as the savvy Argall. August Schellenberg is strong as Chief Powhatan and Wes Studi is superb as Opechancanough."

"...Schellenberg and Wes Studi capture the dignity and ferocity of warriors fighting to retain a way of life." The Hollywood Reporter, Dec. 13, 2005

"...Wes Studi has savage wisdom as Opechancanough, the Native brave who warns his chief that the colonists are lying when they promise to leave. " Zap2It.com
